What is Ambacht in Beeld doing regarding sustainability?

Ambacht in Beeld and sustainability go hand in hand: artisans do not engage in mass production, but create high-quality handmade products.

The festival aims to make visitors aware that while bags from China may be cheap, they are certainly not the best choice for quality and the environment. Raw materials are precious and must be used sparingly. An object handmade by a master craftsman is of high quality, retains its value, and can often be repaired time and again. The object has a story, is often passed on or resold, and thereby contributes to a sustainable society. This is in contrast to mass production and a ‘throwaway’ society.

Materials used by artisans are precious. Therefore, they would never simply leave precious raw materials behind, but would always take them along to use for other projects. In this way, leftover clay is mixed again, allowing something new to be made. Ambacht in Beeld has been using the same partners and therefore the same signage for years.

Ambacht in Beeld hires materials instead of purchasing them.

Recycle
Ambacht in Beeld collaborates with various exhibitors to show that recycling materials can be a lot of fun. For instance, children can build a tiny house using leftover wood from the timber yard, and you can attend a stained-glass restoration workshop using recycled glass.
