10 years Ambacht in Beeld Festival / Craft in Focus Festival
The Craft in Focus Festival has existed since 2013 and will now have its first Brussels edition. It has grown into a major event that introduces a diverse audience to master craftsmen from all over the world. Unique about the festival is that we do not focus on selling products, but on exchanging knowledge and skills. When one sees a master at work, it sometimes looks easy. But when people experience how challenging it is to make something with your hands during a workshop, they gain appreciation for the craft and discover that it takes years to master these skills. Moreover, they experience the pleasure of making.
Festival director Wendy van Wilgenburg: ‘With the festival we want to share the beauty and value of master craftsmanship with the audience. But the ambition is larger, with the event we contribute to safeguarding crafts knowledge and the influx for vocational training. The festival also aims to create a more conscious view of the world, by focusing on products that are sustainably made and can be repaired. These objects have a story and are made with love and attention by artisan makers. All this is – especially now – of great value and we have been committed to this for years.’
