During the pottery throwing workshop, you will discover the various steps from a ball of clay to shaping a pot. You will get a taste of the process and go home with a pot you made yourself.
Pottery is an ancient craft that has undergone several evolutions over the centuries. Pottery used to be an essential part of life. It provided utensils for cooking and eating. While that function is now increasingly shifting towards a way to quiet the mind. Throwing a pot on the wheel requires a great deal of focus and practice, which is why many people experience it as a pleasant way to clear their heads. Nevertheless, pottery is a craft in which you must grow to learn to master the clay and give it shape. It takes time, patience, and perseverance to master this craft, but once you do, a world of possibilities and styles opens up.
Greet Roosbeek from Studio Broos is teaching the workshop: “As a child, creativity played an important role in my life. It was my way of finding peace in a world that could sometimes overwhelm me. I experimented a great deal, but since the age of 18, I became captivated by clay. I took various pottery throwing courses and workshops and completed the 3-year ceramics program at the Dutch Ceramics Training Institute in Gouda in 2025. I felt more and more that clay is my language, and that is how Studio Broos came into being. A place where I want to inspire others to (re)discover their creativity and find peace. I am a thrower of functional work with a cheerful and playful touch, and I enjoy decorating my work with engobes and sgraffito. At the same time, I cannot be pigeonholed, and the versatility of ceramics also challenges me to try new things, such as casting with porcelain.”
Thanks to Colpaert for sponsoring the clay!
